Without touching it Edozie knew there was blood on his lip.
He rolled his tongue across the front of his teeth to check if any one was amiss. A tiny relief coursed through his skin when he found they were sore but complete. He lumbered to his feet and slowly knocked the dust from his hips.
"Izunna you punched me!"
His ten year old assailant stepped a few steps back with wary eyes and bunched little fists.
"You punched me," Edozie repeated, unsure what his next action in this conflict should be. Izu looked smallish and lean compared to Edozie's 13 year old body. Yet judging from that punch it was obvious he'd misjudged his phisique. His jaw hurt but he refused the urge to cry in public, especially since all his friends were watching, intrigued.
"Was it not you who started looking for my trouble?" Izunna cried.
His eyes were red with the beckonings of tears and the fear he vigorously fougt to resist. He'd thrown his fist reckoning they'd not be received. Now he knew he was in hot okro soup...
And God help if he wasn't the fish.
"Edozie punch him back."
"Dozie pummel his teeth."
"Dodo stuff sand in his mouth. Give him something to remember the next time he's brushing his teeth."
Edozie's friends were sure he would win.
Their champion was not so certain he'd take the fight. From the age of five, he hadn't ever had to fight anyone because of his weight, his height and the ever present scorn in his dreary eyes. One look at him and the other boys would either surrender to the bully or take to their heels to escape the fight. Little Izu was the first person to ever challenge Edozie. The sheer courage plagued his mind. His grand
"Izu so you think you are strong okwa ya. You think you can fight me. Ngwa cross this line let me see you"
