THE PALM ASSEMBLY

©nnamdiudoka
The Palm Assembly
If Palm trees held a meeting
In the depths of the vast rain forest
If palm trees all convened
Would you love to watch them a speak?

I have had the greatest of pleasures
To have witnessed a meeting like this

Where a tall palm wiggled it's feathers
And another brandished its fist
Yet another was angrier still
When it raised its eyelashes at me
"Who invited this human, who did"
A question that rattled the trees

If palm trees ever held a meeting
In the depths of the forest, within
Do not attend in your human clothes
In your jewelry and sandals and smell
For these trees are no hospitable sort
They dissent our unwelcome intrusion

I was lucky, I feel that I was
To have tip toed and run when I did
Just the minute the question was asked
Who invited this human, who did.
And just as I hurried off, I looked back and saw
Each tree raise accusing palms at the other
